Evelyn Mae Pinsky nee Smith, 94, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023, after a short illness.
Our mom Evelyn was born in Magrath, Alberta, and grew up in Spring Coulee, Alberta.
Mom attended the University of British Columbia and attained a Liberal Arts degree. While attending UBC Mom met George Pinsky. They married on August 28, 1951, in Spring Coulee.
Mom and Dad began married life in Yellowknife, NWT. Mom was active in church life, volunteer activities, and the care of her family as our parents lived in Lethbridge, Edmonton, and Calgary.
Mom was a gentle, kind, and caring soul. She is remembered for her generous smile and her delight in raising her children and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family dinners were legendary. Pie, cakes, and cookies were her specialty.
Evelyn enjoyed curling, hiking, X-country skiing, and walking. She was an active bird watcher and shared her love of nature with her family and friends.
Evelyn is survived by her husband George; daughters, Mary-Jean Burrows (Ian Gatherum), and Deb Barron (Ken Biggs); son Ken Pinsky (Jackie); grandchildren, Steve Barron (Keira), Brett Pinsky, Hannah Pinsky, and Jane Pinsky; step-grandchildren, Mike Biggs (Sarah), and Dan Biggs (Jenny); great-grandchildren, George, and Alex Barron, Alice and Maddie Biggs, and Connor Biggs. Evelyn is also survived by her brother Doug Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Jean Smith; sisters, Jean Braden, and Margie Boyd; and brothers, George, and Jim Smith.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Laurence Anglican Church (5940 Lakeview Dr SW, Calgary) with Celebrant Jane Rowland officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials or donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Mom was a strong supporter of literacy, education, and Meals on Wheels.
