Emanuel "Mike" Marakis

With deep sorrow and much love, we mourn the passing of Emanuel “Mike” Marakis of Calgary on the early morning of Tuesday, April 20, 2021, shortly after his 83rd birthday. Mike will be lovingly remembered by Toula (Dimitra), his wife of fifty-four years; his son, Steve (Rachel) Marakis; his daughter Maria (Kosta) Karvouniaris; grandchildren, Dennis, Demi, Alex, and Grace; and many extended family and friends.

Mike had a passion for traveling and anything woodworking and building and could fix, improvise, or design a solution to any problem he encountered. His ingenuity and creativity were second to none. Mike’s family was the most important part of his life. Mike was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive Baba, Pappouli, and husband. His wisdom and guidance were the foundation of his family, and his humorous nature was a core piece of his personality. Mike had a special relationship with many people and was always happy to help out, chat, joke, or tell you a story, usually about back home in Greece.

In recent years, his battle with severe medical issues showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and positivity. Thank you for all the beautiful memories you left with us. You are always on our minds and forever in our hearts.

Private Prayers on Friday, April 23, 2021. Private Funeral Service will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
