Elva, beloved wife of Ivor Wellicome, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at 85 years-of-age.
Elva was born in 1936 in Regina, Saskatchewan, to Charles Nathan and Kathleen Mae Campbell (nee McKinstry). She was raised in Regina with her sisters, Leila, Verna, and Zella. In 1943, at the age of 6, Elva tragically lost her mother. She attended Victoria Public School and Central Collegiate in Regina, then joined the workforce as an administrative assistant. Elva went on to enjoy a long career with Canada Post in customer service.
In 1954, Elva met the love of her life, Ivor Wellicome, at a Regina skating rink. Their romance grew from there, leading to marriage in December 1956, followed by 64 years of mutual adoration, support, and adventure. Elva, Ivor, and their children lived and traveled in numerous cities, provinces, and countries across the globe. Elva deeply appreciated her life of variety because she loved to observe, explore, and learn, but above all she enjoyed people. Perhaps her greatest gift was her ability to use kindness, empathy, and selflessness to patiently and gently impart wisdom and strength. She shared this gift freely with everyone around her, making each of our lives so much better for it.
Elva is survived by her husband Ivor; their daughter, Karen Veilleux (Jean-Guy); two sons, Bradley (Cheryl) and Troy (Kerry); grandchildren, Brandon (Tiffany) Waardenburg, Ryan, Connor, Norah, and Gwenn; great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Jacob Waardenburg; two sisters, Verna Weiss and Zella Niedermayer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Elva is predeceased by her parents, her infant son Daryl, and her sister Leila Campbell.
Elva’s family extend a special thank you to the dedicated people at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, McKenzie Towne Long-Term Care Home, and South Health Campus Hospital for the tenderness, sensitivity, and compassion they provided in Elva's last months and days. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in memory, to charities that were important to Elva such as the following:
