Elsie Lieske Obituary

Elsie Lieske (Melling) was born in Siegfreidswalde, Germany on November 24, 1920.

She came to Canada when she was 6 months old with her parents and grandmother. She grew up in Winnipeg and attended high school at Daniel McIntrye Collegiate Institute. Elsie met her husband, Frederick Lieske at Echo Lake church camp when she was a teenager.

They were married in 1941 and daughter Yvonne Elaine was born in 1943. Shortly after Fred was called to the Air Force and served until 1945. Their second daughter Ferne Lynne was born in 1947. They farmed at Lang, Saskatchewan until 1981 when they retired to Kelowna. They moved to the Signature Park Manor in Calgary in 2009 and Fred passed away in July, 2010.

Elsie was an active participant in church and community activities. Important to her was her faith in Jesus Christ. She prayed daily for her children and grandchildren.

Elsie enjoyed cooking, sewing, entertaining, reading, and curling. She watched curling until shortly before she passed away.

Elsie is survived by one brother-in-law, Irvine Huber, and two sisters-in-law both named Ruth; daughters Yvonne(Ken) Burkart and Ferne(Lorne) McPhail; grandsons Trevor, Layton(Karen), Craig(Allison), Branden(Leah), and Carter(Julie); great-grandchildren Cole(Dallas), Gabe(Kate), Micah, Lauren (Josh) Gares, Josh, Andrew, Abigail, Eva, and Teagan; and one great-great-grandson, Crew.
