It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elgin Tomlinson Seupersad. Known to all who loved him as Sam (Sambo), to his children as Dad (Daddy), and to his grandkids and children-in-law as Papa. Sam’s generous and loving heart gave everything it could and stopped working around 4 pm last Friday when the angels took him from this life.
Born in Tunapuna, Trinidad & Tobago, on May 13, 1945, Sam brought his family to Canada in 1990 and made Calgary, Alberta, his cherished home for the past 34 and a half years. His life’s journey was one of dedication, love, and service to his family, friends, and community.
His career in financial services spanned over four decades, where he touched many lives through his work at Republic Bank (1963-1989), Royal Bank (1990-1994), Mutual Life / Clarica (1995-2004), and finally, with the Knights of Columbus (2005-2009). His passion and commitment were evident in everything he did, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike… many of whom became lifelong friends.
Sam was a devoted husband to Virginia, a loving father to Rachael (Allan), Stuart (Rosallyn), and Sean (Dianne), and a cherished grandfather to Stephan, Zachary, Xander, and Zoey. His love for his family was boundless, and he found immense joy in their successes and happiness.
Sam was the beloved son of Ralph and Dora (both deceased) and a treasured brother to Ralph (Dhan, deceased), Patricia (Lou), Desmond (deceased) (Sheila), Angela (Alain), Courtney (deceased), Sucheta (Lloyd), and Wendy (Suresh). He was also an adored uncle to many nieces and nephews, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
Sam’s life was marked by his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the people and projects in his life. He was a collector of people and things. His gregarious spirit and kind heart were a source of strength and comfort to all who knew him. Sam made friends easily and took much joy in meeting new people and engaging in conversations. He will be deeply missed but remembered fondly with love and gratitude by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
