Eileen Cassidy Obituary

Eileen Lavina Cassidy passed away peacefully in her sleep with family by her side on April 24, 2021 and has joined her Lord Jesus in Heaven.

Eileen was born on June 7, 1930 in Stoughton, Saskatchewan to Lila and Robert Fenn. Eileen was the eldest of four children, Lois, Denzel, and Robert. She was affectionately called “Eenie” by her younger siblings as they grew up on the farm outside Stoughton. Eileen’s generosity and work ethic reflected her upbringing on the farm during the Depression.

In August 1950, Eileen walked into the bank and met Lorne Cassidy, a young banker. The two have been in love ever since, and on April 9, 2021 they celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Eileen and Lorne raised three children, Donna, Debbie, and Doug and maintained deep and loving relationships with all her children.

With Lorne’s career, Eileen happily lived in various communities across the Prairies, including Winnipeg, Regina, and Calgary. Eileen welcomed a new life in each new community, becoming a member of the local Apostolic congregation and trying new vocations to satisfy her need to work and contribute. In retirement, Eileen and Lorne spent the winters in Arizona. Eileen was always willing to take up new pursuits to enjoy and experience life. Eileen started skiing at 45 years of age, took up tennis at 65, and bocci at 75. She enjoyed board games with family and especially Rummy Tile in her later years. Eileen loved to knit. Over the last twenty years, she has knitted dozens of children’s blankets for the Ronald McDonald House.

Eileen fully embraced life as a grandmother and great-grandmother. It always seemed that loving her family was her greatest priority in life. Eileen was lovingly called Mammy by all these children as she played, read, and prayed with them. Mammy’s love for her immediate and extended family was immense. She was always there to provide love and support, whenever needed. Eileen loved to prepare large family dinners, always ensuring there was room at the table for one more.

Eileen is survived by her loving husband Lorne; her children, Donna, Debbie and Doug; her siblings, Lois, Denzel and Robbie; grandchildren, Cameron, Carlie, Crystal and Matthew; great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving spouses.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Agape Hospice for their gentle and compassionate care of Eileen in her final days.

A small memorial service with Eileen’s family will be held. A celebration of Eileen’s life will be held in Calgary later this summer when the world is right.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Agape Hospice in Calgary.
