Edward "Ed" Krawchuk Obituary

Ed Krawchuk passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the age of 86 years.  Ed will be forever remembered as a kind, gentle, loyal man as well as a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He always enjoyed sharing a story or two about days gone by, his many adventures while working in the oil patch, and road tripping in his Jetta east and west to spend time with friends and family. Ed could often be found at the Glenmore swimming pool, the Glenbrook Greenthumbs Community Garden, or various hockey arenas around town cheering on his four grandkids with pride. He will be dearly missed by the boys this spring as they embark on their annual fishing trip to Northern Saskatchewan. This trip was something that Ed always enjoyed – other than having to remove his caught fish from the hooks. Good thing he took his grandson along!

After leaving the family farm in 1958 to pursue other interests, he found himself in Ontario helping his brother, Walter in construction then to Edmonton to work with his brother Leon in the airline industry. Ed eventually found his way to the oil patch where he happily spent his time until he retired at age of 72. His various jobs with Nabors Drilling and Enercon Engineering took him all over Western Canada, the Arctic Circle, Wyoming and Argentina. He spoke often about his adventures during this time and all the people that he had the opportunity to meet and get to know. Ed was a lifelong learner – whether it was learning another language, computer usage, gardening or swimming. His desire to continue learning every day and take on new challenges will always be an inspiration to his kids and grandkids.

Not a day passed where Ed wasn’t looking for tasks to keep him busy or to help others. Nothing gave him more pleasure than helping his kids or his neighbours and friends with odd jobs – even those that required the heaviest of lifting. Ed was always there to lend a hand. He developed dear friendships over the last number of years with Rick, Amin, Dale and Pam (and her cat Luna). He valued his time spent with each of them and was so grateful for their friendship.

Ed is survived by his sons Darryl and Alan (Christie); his grandkids Avery, Brett, Libby and Blair; his brother Toney (Margaret) Lambert; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved and cared for.

Ed was predeceased by his daughter Sheila in 2015. He truly cherished his time spent with Sheila. Her laughter brought a smile to his face while they spent time doing quality things together like gardening, cooking and swimming and we know she will once again be a light in his eyes.  He was also predeceased by his parents Mary and John; and his siblings Walter, Jean, Leon, Helen, Fr. Thaddeus, Stanley, Wilfred and Peter.

A private Prayer Service will be held at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services (5502 2 Street SW) on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 7:00-8:00pm with public visitation from 8:00-9:00pm.
