Edward William Skelding

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Edward William Skelding, a proud veteran, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, on November 30, 2024, at the age of 72, after a brief illness.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ed was the eldest of four children raised in Edmonton. He began his distinguished military career at 16, joining the militia before transitioning to the Regular Canadian Armed Forces in 1969.

Master Warrant Officer (Retired) Ed Skelding served Canada with honour for over 39 years. His postings included the FLQ Crisis in Quebec during the War Measures Act, and later as a member of the 2 Commando Airborne Regiment. Ed’s postings spanned CFB Petawawa, CFB Lahr; Germany, CFB Calgary, CFB Wainright, & CFB Edmonton, along with tours in Cyprus, multiple tours in Bosnia I Herzegovina, Croatia and others. Ed was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in recognition of his significant contributions to the CAF, including ensuring the welfare of Canadian soldiers under his care.

Although known for his gruff exterior, Ed was fiercely dedicated to his troops, earning their respect through his unwavering support. He will be remembered for his leadership, integrity, and deep care for those he served with.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Lil; his daughter, Lori; and his cherished grandchildren, Ever and Cash, who brought immense joy to his life. Sadly, also leaving behind his adored sister Tina, many friends and his extended family who will remember him fondly. He was predeceased by his parents; Cecil, and Frances; his sister, Leah; and his father-in-law, Mike Kobylka.
