Dr. Robert Eugene “Bob” Lowery, born October 20, 1930, in Anaconda, Montana, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. He grew up in the Deer Lodge Valley and later attended Montana State University. Bob served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict before returning to continue his education, ultimately earning advanced degrees including a Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Montana.
In 1953, Bob met the love of his life, Shirley, and they married on October 15, 1955. Together they raised three children and built a life filled with family, education, and adventure. Bob began his career teaching in Cardston, Alberta, later becoming the founding principal of Bishop Carroll High School in Calgary, where he left a lasting mark on the Calgary Separate Schools system.
He enjoyed golf, winemaking, carpentry, and traveling with Shirley. Remembered for his quiet strength, thoughtfulness, and gentle spirit, Bob never lost his temper and lived with kindness and grace.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Shirley; his children, Shawn and Joanne; and his grandson, Rob.
He is survived by his son, Kevin (Bonnie); grandchildren Shauna (Shane), Brandon, Blake (Ruth), and Darci; daughter-in-law, Lori; son-in-law, Brian; and three great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind a legacy of gentleness, integrity, and devotion to family that will continue to inspire those who loved him.
A Funeral Mass for both Bob & Shirley will be held at St. Albert the Great Parish (10 Prestwick Dr SE, Calgary) on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 11:00am. A reception will be held afterwards.
