It is with deep sadness that I announce the unexpected passing of my beloved husband, Douglas (Doug) Mahlon Ryckman, of Chinook Park, Calgary at the age of 74 on Friday, August 30, 2024.
Born in Exeter, Ontario, Doug grew up on the family farm near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. At the age of 23, following graduation from Moose Jaw’s Saskatchewan Technical Institute (STI, now Saskatchewan Polytechnic), he began his decades long accounting career in Calgary.
Loving husband of Roberta (Neil) Ryckman for almost 45 years. Survived by brother Ron (Susan Kellar) Ryckman of Bancroft and formerly Iroquois Falls. Uncle to Sean (Sandra Frenette) Ryckman of Ottawa, and Mark (Renee St. Germain) Ryckman of Peterborough. Great Uncle to Cameron, Adam, Christian; and Malin. Predeceased by his parents Mahlon and Josie (Kerslake) Ryckman of Exeter and in-laws Wes and Mary (Johns) Neil of Exeter, formerly of Kirkton.
A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at the Chinook Park / Kelvin Grove / Eagle Ridge Community Association Hall (1015 – 73 Ave SW, Calgary) on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Words of remembrance starting 4:30 p.m.
Doug’s ashes will travel to Exeter, Ontario for a gathering at Haskett Funeral Home.
If friends so desire, memorial donations in Doug’s name to the Calgary Humane Society at 403-723-6000 or https://www.calgaryhumane.ca/ would be appreciated by the family.
