Doug passed away peacefully in Calgary surrounded by family after living with debilitating COPD for years. He wanted to say he did it “his way.” And he did. Born in Saskatoon, Doug grew into a naturally athletic, highly intelligent, handsome young man. After marrying and graduating from the University of Saskatchewan, Doug moved to Calgary, where he taught high school mathematics and became a father of two. Doug then joined the computer industry in its infancy, working at IBM for almost ten years. Following his strong entrepreneurial bent, Doug went on to either consult or found several independent businesses, making colourful, longstanding friends along the way. He is remembered and missed by them, as well as by his loving family. Doug is survived by his daughter, Tara (Martin) and son, Bryn; sisters: Marian (Ron) Carabine and Peggy (Martin) Lazor who, along with daughters Renee and Rachelle (Jason) formed a close, Calgary family circle for "Uncle D"; his grandson, Kelyn; step grandsons, Laurent and Maxime; his children’s mother, Carolyn (Kehl), plus numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Don (Dea) Johns and Bud (Beth) Johns; his parents: father, Earl and beloved mother, Frances (Lekavy) Johns. A come-and-go celebration of Doug’s life will be held Sunday, June 22 from 1pm to 4pm at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services at 3625 12 St NE, Calgary.
