It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Don has been taken from this earth for a higher purpose. Don will be lovingly remembered and extremely missed by the love of his life of 40 years Angel Klapecki; his two daughters Jessica (Cody) and Virginia (Greg); and the apple of his eye, granddaughter Olivia. Don also leaves behind his two brothers Gerry (Evangeline) and Reg (Melanie) as well as numerous family members. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Eleanor and mother-in-law Josephine DelGuercio and survived by his father in-law Tony DelGuercio. For anyone who knew Don, they knew that he would want us to find comfort with each other and peace that he is with his angels and loved ones that have passed on before him. It was a life well lived with intention and purpose.
Don was born in Winnipeg and soon after the family relocated to Edmonton, eventually to Kamloops and finally Calgary where Don stayed to live out the rest of his life. At a young age, Don pursued a level of excellence at sports that lead to great success in high school, university and created a lifetime of dedication to being an athlete. He attended University to become an educator and had an illustrious career that was dedicated to guiding youth on their path towards success. Don was someone who always strived to live in the present and to be judgement free. He held great knowledge and had a passion for lifelong learning which brought him into the many branches of discovering his own spirituality.
Don loved so many things: being in nature, travelling the world, creating delicious and nutritious meals, skiing, camping, and caring for his growing family. There are many things that he surrounded himself with: music, books, photographs, family, friends and most of all knick knacks!
Don always marched to the beat of his own drum and the last years of his life were spent doing exactly that in his retirement. He was always ready to be of service (“Don on Demand”), lend a listening ear, or to offer guidance and most importantly humour. Please go forward with love and light just as Don did.
