Dimitra (Katsaris) Christofilakis

Dimitra was born April 23, 1952 in Mystra, Lakonia, Greece to Alexios and Stratigo Katsaris. She was the 6th of 9 kids. At a young age, Dimitra was a hairdresser in Greece, but she wanted more out of life, so she followed her sisters to Canada.

In 1971, she immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, and the next year, she met and married Stelios Christofilakis in 1972. Together, they had three children: Joanne (Giannoula), Dimitrios, and Stacey (Stratigoula). Dimitra was a proud homemaker, taking care of the kids and the household. When the kids got older, she started working. Her last job was at the A&W in Olds, where she would deny her son french toast for breakfast because it would mess up her grill.

Dimitra was always the first person to help whenever someone needed it. Whether it was something as simple as making spanakopites with her daughters and daughter-in-law, taking care of someone's children, or making a favorite meal for one of her kids or grandkids, she would always say yes. She loved her grandchildren very much, and the bond she had with each of them will never be broken.

In the spring of 2024, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. It started to spread through her body, but she never complained - she did not want to be a bother to anyone. It was shocking to everyone that she deteriorated so quickly, but her body had enough. With her family in the hospital room with her, watching her favorite television show, she took her last breath and left us.

Dimitra is predeceased by her parents, Alexios and Stratigo Katsaris and her brother, Paul Katsaris. She is survived by her husband Stelios; her sisters; daughters Stacey, and Joanne (Chris); son Dimitrios (Nicole); grandchildren Alexis, Phillip, Aletheia and Calliope; her fur grandkids Priya and Roxi; as well as many extended family and friends. 

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at Evan J. Strong Funeral South (5502 2 Street SW) on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 5:30 pm.  Funeral Service will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (1 Tamarac Crescent SW) on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 10:00 am with a reception to follow. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
