It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Dennis Wingert of Calgary, who passed away on Wednesday July 15, 2020 at the age of 59 after a short battle with cancer.
Dennis was born in Brandon, Manitoba on March 31, 1961, and was the second of three children. In 1967, the Wingert family moved from Brandon to Calgary, Alberta. At the age of 12, Dennis discovered his gift for mechanical ingenuity, tinkering in the garage building go-carts, attracting attention from all of the neighbourhood children (much to his mother's delight and chagrin).
Dennis attended Van Horne High School where he studied Automobile Mechanics. Armed with passion and skill, Dennis began his lifelong career as a Mechanic, helping tens of thousands of people with their vehicle woes.
Developing a hobby for hot rods, Dennis went on to build his very own 1926 Ford Model T. After many years of customization, Dennis' Model T was featured in the Calgary Sun on Friday June 30, 2006. Dennis participated in dozens of car shows hosted by Show and Shine, Nifty Fifty's Ford Club, as well as Wild Rose Rod & Custom (to name a few).
When Dennis was not focused on cars, you could find him frequenting blues events around Calgary where he met many cherished friends. Dennis' generosity touched many hearts, and he had a great ability for recalling memories and special moments shared with family and friends. His flare for theatrics sparked the imagination and delight of his audience, producing countless laughs.
Dennis is predeceased by his brother John Wingert, and father Donald Wingert. Words cannot express just how much Dennis will be missed by his daughter Crystal (Joe), son Dallis (Sarah), mother Elizabeth, and sister Debora Honey (Cam) and Sister-in-law Barbara. Also left to mourn are nieces, nephews, and a plethora of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dennis' companion Kathy Dahl, as well as friends and colleagues, for their support through his illness. We will be honouring Dennis with a Celebration of Life that will be privately held on Saturday July 25, 2020. If desired, memorial donations may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer
