It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Simon Hataley on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Dennis Simon Hataley was born on July 30th, 1964 to Julia and Myroslow Hataley of Arran, Saskatchewan. Dennis grew up on the family farm along with his siblings. He spent most of his time outdoors, where he loved to be. He attended Arran School to Grade 10 and then St. Vladimir High School in Roblin, Manitoba, and graduated 1982.
He moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, where he worked at Boston Pizza, attended Wascana Institute for Applied Arts and Science and joined a Ukrainian dance troupe that took him and the troupe to Europe and Ukraine. They toured many cities where he met and stayed with extended family.
Dennis moved to Calgary in the early 1990’s where he continued working at Boston Pizza. After Boston Pizza, he worked in the oil industry as a Directional Drilling Engineer. He worked long days and weeks in camp. In recent years he worked in the Calgary office. The friends he made and the people he met remained a significant part of his life.
Dennis enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, he would listen and provide worthy and thoughtful advice. He loved nature and being outside hiking, biking and taking pictures. He was an avid photographer since high school. He loved watching sports, his favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys. Dennis was there for you, he always showed up rain or shine. You could count on him and above all he was always upbeat and positive.
Dennis is predeceased by his parents, Myroslow and Julia, and his sister Bernadette. Dennis is survived by his siblings: Ellery (Debbie), Dion, Patrick, Janice, Maria, Gerald, Gregory, his nieces and nephews: Lisa, Ryan, Heather, Myros, his best friend Chantel, and the many close friends he has made along the way.
A Prayer Service will be held at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903 – 45 Street SW) in Calgary on February 4, 2026 at 6:00pm.
A Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903 – 45 Street SW) in Calgary on February 5, 2026 at 11:00am, followed by a reception at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services(South) 5502 2 Street SW. Dennis will be laid to rest with family in Arran, Saskatchewan.
