David J. Bolger Born August 2, 1949, in Charlottetown, PEI, David passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, at SkyPointe Hospice in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 76.
Dave is lovingly remembered by his wife Nancy (née Nelson), his children Scott (Alisha) and Carrie-Ann, and his cherished grandchildren Taiki and Cash. He is also survived by his brother Wilfred, sister Mary, and brother-in-law Peter. He was predeceased by his parents, Alban and Margaret Bolger, and his first wife, Mae (née Doiron).
Raised on the family farm in Stanley Bridge, PEI, Dave’s early years were shaped by rural life and close family ties. When his father’s health declined, the family relocated to Timberlea, Nova Scotia, where Dave attended high school. At just 17, he struck out west to Calgary in search of opportunity. With nothing but a phone book and determination, he landed a job in the oil patch—thus beginning a remarkable career.
Dave’s work took him across the globe: from Hassi Messaoud, Algeria, to Jakarta, Singapore, England, and Scotland. One of his proudest professional moments was drilling a gas well in Oklahoma that reached a depth of 33,225 feet. He even walked away from two helicopter crashes—calling them “minor,” of course.
Eventually, Dave and his family returned to Calgary, where he continued working in completions and retired as a Completions Superintendent. Retirement suited him well. He embraced each day with a sunny disposition and a zest for life. A true social butterfly, Dave loved riding his motorcycle, curling, golf, cards, beach days, and lending a helping hand—whether it was carrying groceries for a stranger or simply sharing a smile.
An Alzheimer’s diagnosis was a difficult chapter, but Dave faced it with courage. From the beginning, he was vocal about his wish for MAiD, and his family honours that brave decision.
In accordance with Dave’s wishes, no service will be held. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Calgary MAID team for their compassionate care.
