David Woods Obituary

It is with profound sadness and the heaviest of hearts, that we announce the passing of our most precious husband, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, David Earl Woods, on May 19th, 2026, at the age of 75.

David was born May 14, 1951, in Vanguard, Saskatchewan. He was the cherished son of Earl (Buster) and Grace Woods, and the beloved brother of Sherryl, Coleen, Dianne and Brian.

To know, David was to experience a rare and beautiful kind of love. He possessed an incredibly bright spirit, a very generous heart, and an uncanny ability to bring light, laughter, and comfort to everyone, fortunate enough to cross his path. Whether he was cheering on his favourite team, spending time outdoors, or tinkering in the garage, his passion and boundless energy were truly contagious. More than his many rewarding accomplishments, David measured his life by the relationships he built and the care he showed others. He was not only a fantastic, perfect husband, brother, and uncle, but a true best friend to us all, a fierce protector, and a guiding light.

Though he was taken from us far too soon, the countless memories, lessons, and love he shared are treasures that can never be stolen. The immense depth of our grief reflects the profound love we will always have for him.

On October 8, 1983, David married the love of his life, Kathy Kozma. Together, they shared almost 43 years of the deepest love, truest partnership, and a marriage filled with laughter, unwavering support. They totally enjoyed travelling and holidaying to many wonderful destinations over the years.

David was a very dedicated and honest employee at his various occupations. Known for his professional traits, strong work ethic, brilliant mind and creative problem-solving, David earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. However, his true compassion was to be there and care for his precious wife, Kathy. He was always ever present and a very attentive, devoted, caring husband. He was a man with a heart of solid gold, as he approached life with a rare zest and an effortless smile. Not only was David a remarkable man - dependable, gentle hearted, but his biggest trait was that he was so exceptionally humble with all his successes. He was blessed with an uncanny ability to connect with anyone and everyone.

He leaves behind to cherish his beautiful memory, his loving, dedicated wife of almost 43 years, Kathy Woods (Kozma), his siblings Sherryl Woods, Dianne Michaud (Ron), Brian Woods (Mary Ann),  and all of his nieces and nephews, as well as a wide circle of extended family and very dear friends. He was predeceased in death by his grandparents, his mother, Grace Woods (Torwick), his father Earl (Buster) Woods,  sister Coleen Blohm, brother-in-law, Douglas Blohm, sister-in-law, Dr. Stephanie Kozma, all his aunts and uncles, and his beloved pet dogs, Elvis and Casper.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18 Ave. SW, Calgary, AB T2S 0C2). Reception to follow at St. Mary's Cathedral Parish Hall.

All who knew and loved David are welcome to attend and share their favourite memories if they so desire.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice.

“The bond we shared cannot be broken, even by death. Rest peacefully, dear David. You will be loved, remembered and missed forever.”
