In loving memory of David Bruce Howes, aged 78, who passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, just days before Christmas and what would have been his 79th birthday, December 28th. These were the seasons and celebrations David cherished the most—filled with love and family visits. Though it is heartbreaking that he did not see those beloved days this year, there is a quiet poetry in his leaving during the time of year that brought him the greatest happiness.
As the second child in a family of eight siblings, David charged ahead with childhood adventures including journeys across the world, approaching every adventure with his indomitable spirit.
He faced many challenges, and still amazed us with his extraordinary resilience and unbreakable will to live. He astonished us all by overcoming a serious disease through sheer determination, refusing to let it define or defeat him. His strength inspired all of us.
What truly set him apart was his remarkable humor and quick wit that could turn any moment into laughter. He was naturally funny and always gave the funniest, most appropriate birthday cards to us.
In later years, he found a second family in the caring community where he lived. Our family will be forever grateful for the friendships and companionship he had with other residents and for all the care and understanding he received from the staff at Skyview AgeCare.
David was loved beyond measure by all of us and his passing leaves a void in our hearts. He was our comedian and our quiet hero.
Lovingly remembered by his sisters and brothers:
Evelyn Bond, Debra MacFarlane (Kevin), Susan Bell, Jeff Howes, Steve Howes, Janet Quinn, Betty Jo (Wayne) Hovdebo
Survived by one aunt, eight nieces and nephews, ten great-nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
Predeceased by our parents, Cliff and Lois Howes and nephew Clifford MacFarlane, all of Calgary.
We will carry your laughter, your stories (what stories!) and your love with us always. Rest in peace, dear brother, we will especially remember you in the season you loved the most.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in David's memory to the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. Date to be announced.
