David Blain Obituary

David Blain was born in New Norway, Alberta on September 23, 1924. When he was approximately 2 years old his family moved back to Stockton, Manitoba to take over the family farm. Dave's mother Lillian Blain (nee' Howlett) passed away at about this time. Dave, together with his 2 older brothers, Reg and Lorne, his sister Ilo, and their father Edward Blain, farmed the area for many years.

Dave attended Stockton Consolidated School and graduated on June 26th,1941. He joined the Army 18th Manitoba Battalion 12th Manitoba Dragoon’s in July 1941 until February 1942. He then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force August 5th, 1942, as an Aircrew Pilot until 1945. Dave married Lillian Watson on February 8th, 1945 and together they welcomed Heather Anne Blain.

He re-enlisted in the RCAF as an Aircraft Mechanic and then to Weather Observation. In 1950 Dave returned to being an Aircrew Pilot until June 1954. After leaving the RCAF, he was employed by Blue Cross, followed by Manitoba Health Services Commission until his retirement on June 27, 1989.

On August 15,1953 Dave married Dorothy Jean Belows. After retirement, he and Dorothy built a new home in Kelowna BC, after which they moved to Calgary in 1995. Dave loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing were some of his favorite pass times. Many happy times were spent with his brother Lorne, his father Edward, and of course his best friend Fred Anderson. Dad enjoyed hiking, golf and skating in his retirement years.

Dad is survived by his daughter Heather Anne McDonald; his sons Terrence John Blain (Beulah), Stuart Edward Blain (Deborah); his daughter Sharron Christine Dusessoy (passed away November 20, 2009) (Chuck); and his many grandchildren,  great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He will be missed. Rest In Peace Dave
