It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of David Wayne Bentham of Calgary, on Monday, March 13, 2023 at the age of 75.
David is lovingly remembered by his wife Dulce; son Philip (Stefanie); and grandchildren Mathis and Josephine. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara (Anson) and Patti. David is predeceased by his parents Herbert and Dorothy Bentham.
David was born in Oshawa Ontario on April 17, 1947. He then moved to Toronto and began his decades-long career with Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, where he was then transferred to Calgary in 1988.
David will be remembered for being a kind man, always willing to listen, and who had a surprising sense of humour. David was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Deacon of the Roman Catholic Church Diocese of Calgary where he enjoyed connecting with and supporting families of his local parish. David also was a lifelong blood donor, with over 75 donations.
When not at the church, David could be found listening to music, going to the theater, traveling the world with Dulce, or reading a good book in the back garden.
David’s son Philip will fondly remember David taking him to early morning hockey practice, watching Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday evenings, and sharing their love for the Toronto Maple Leafs. David also cheered on the Toronto Argo CFL team as well as the New York Yankees.
The family would like to send gratitude to the staff of the Victoria unit at Bow View Manor in Montgomery for taking incredible care of David for the past 4 years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Parish in Calgary on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, please honor David by donating to the St. Pius X North of 60 Project 2023 where a Sea Container is being filled with food, household items, and clothing to support the Food Bank in Inuvik. Monetary donations can be made by e-transfer to ssvp_donate@stpiusx.ca
