Cornelis Johannes Kruyssen

October 19, 1925 ~ April 12, 2022 (age 96)

Obituary

Cornelis (Kees) Johannes Kruyssen passed away peacefully in Calgary, on April 12, 2022.

He was born in Alkmaar, Netherlands on October 19, 1925. He came to Canada and landed at Montreal. From there, he made his way to Alberta, and eventually settled in Calgary.

Kees is survived by his loving wife Peggie; of 69 years; his sons; Glenn, Grant, and Peter (Kim); and his daughters Heather and Karen. His grandchildren Brent, Gregory, Lindsay, Jennifer, and Joshua; and his great grandchildren Isaac, Logan, Myla, and Noah.

Kees is also survived by his sister An of the Netherlands and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kees was predeceased by his parents Arnoldus and Maartje; two brothers Piet and Joop; and one sister Alie.

Kees grew up working in his father’s bakery, when he was just a boy. It was only natural that Kees would go on to become a Master Pastry Chef and over the years, he worked at a number of fine restaurants and hotels. He retired in 1995 after nearly 60 years as a baker and pastry professional.

He enjoyed golf, curling, skiing and family camping trips, with camping still fondly shared by his family to this day.

Kees and Peggie spent many days and evenings, enjoying long walks and riding their bicycles through Fish Creek Park.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Kees at the South Health Campus in Calgary.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests a donation to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) in Kees’s name.
