Christine Scharl-Cornforth

On Monday, July 13, 2026, Christine Scharl-Cornforth passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband (Kevin), children (Ryan (Melanie) and Kellie (James)), and grandchildren (Rhyelle, Rowan, Avery, and Simon).

Christine was born on January 15, 1955, in Neugablonz, Germany to Hans and Elizabeth Scharl, refugees from Hungary. Growing up, Christine was involved in school politics, advocating for her classmates at the all-girls Catholic school she attended. From a young age, Christine lit up every room she entered with her sense of humour, beauty, style, and ability to turn any ordinary gathering into a party. At eighteen, Christine joined Holiday on Ice, ‘the circus’ as she called it, travelling around Europe, Isreal, and South America performing as a chorus ice dancer. By chance or fate, Christine met Kevin at a mutual friend’s house party while she was visiting home and Kevin was playing hockey in Lechbruck. The two fell in love and married two years later in 1980. Together, Christine and Kevin lived in Guelph and Saskatoon before settling in Calgary in 1986. Christine worked at Sundog Printing as production supervisor, while volunteering with the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics as a host for IOC delegates. Family came next with the arrival of Ryan and Kellie, and she transitioned to a full-time stay-at-home mom. Christine advocated for the rights of stay-at-home mothers as a leader in the lobby group Kids First Parent Association of Canada, demanding that caregiving (done mostly by mothers) be valued as real work. In 2002, Christine took a job outside of the home at Eddie Bauer as a sales associate, finding satisfaction in dressing men and women to look their best. Chrstine was known and loved for her quick wit, honesty, and compassion. Her diagnosis of early-onset frontotemporal dementia brought many losses, but it never tarnished her radiant soul, graceful demeanour, or beauty.

The end journey with Christine as she lived with the slow progression of dementia could only be accomplished with a large network of support, "The Fellowship" at it would be called. The Fellowship included family, friends, neighbors, doctors, nurses, AHS, and the true and genuine care provided by all the staff at Age Care Seton. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Christine. We will miss her dearly.
