Cecilia Amelia (Gusikoski) Gibson

Cecilia Amelia Gibson (née Gusikoski) passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital early in the morning of March 28, 2025.  She was supported by friends and family during her short stay at the hospital, with her only son, Brendan and her grandson, Zack at her side during her final moments.

Cecilia (Cec) was born near Viscount, SK. She was the seventh of eleven children. She attended Easterlea School and lived on the family farm near Viscount, SK until she moved to Saskatoon and worked in the hospital. Cecilia moved briefly to Vancouver, BC before settling in Calgary, AB in the 1950s. In the early 1960s, she met her future husband William Gibson. They married in 1966 and welcomed their son Brendan the following year. Cecilia was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who was loved by many.

Cecilia worked at various hospitals, and then grocery stores, before settling into a managerial position at a local post office where she worked for over 30 years. Although she was not a fan of change, she always accepted a challenge and was adaptable to evolving technologies. She also spent many hours volunteering at church in several roles.

Cecilia was patient, kind and was a very good listener. She touched many lives and often left a smile on those she met.

Our parting will not be for long, we shall see each other again in Heaven.

Cecilia is survived by her son Brendan (Candice) Gibson; granddaughter Jessica Gibson; grandson Zack (Arianna) Gibson, sisters; Iona Stites, Dorothy (Ray) Hagel, Eileen Leffler; brothers Leonard (Joyce) Gusikoski, Gordie (Brenda) Gusikoski; sister-in-law Gloria Gusikoski; as well as many nieces and nephews who brought her so much joy. She was predeceased by her husband William Gibson; parents Peter and Veronica (née Gursky) Gusikoski; brothers Tony (Mary) Gusikoski, Albert (Mona) Gusikoski, Edwin Gusikoski; sisters Evelyne Gusikoski, Tillie Welter, and brothers-in-law Bill Welter, Larry Leffler and Bill Stites.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 24 St SW) on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

A Private Interment will be held at Edenbrook Memorial Gardens at a later date.
