Carol Ann Gerritsen Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, Nana, sister, aunt and friend. Carol Ann Gerritsen. She passed peacefully at Rockyview General Hospital, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family.

To many, she was known as Carol or Mrs.Gerritsen, but to us, she was simply Mom, our constant, our safe place, and heart of our family.

Beloved wife of Frank for 56 years, cherished daughter of the late Alex and Mildred Gillies, and loving sister of Donna , Janet, and the late Susan. Carol was also a devoted mother to Karen (Geoff), Susan (Nuno), John Paul (Laura). Cherished Nana to Alyssa, Julia, Jade, Grayson, Benjamin, Patrick, and Thomas, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

Carol was an incredible, compassionate women  who loved to help people. She enjoyed a very rewarding career as a nurse, making many lifelong friends. Carol was regularly recognized throughout the years by many whom she had cared for and helped, especially when she retired. She also volunteered tirelessly with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and with St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church.

She had a special gift for bringing people together. Her warmth, her laughter, and her infectious smile could light up any room and made everyone feel instantly at ease. Whether through family gatherings, or simply opening her home she created spaces filled with love, connection, and belonging. She was known for her wisdom, her sharp sense of humour, and the unforgettable stories she shared, from cherished family memories to the hilarious moments that became part of our family’s legacy.

Carol’s love for her family knew no bounds. She was our greatest supporter, our fiercest protector, and the one who held us all together.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Rocky View General Hospital. We appreciate the protected time we spent with Mom in her last days.

In lieu of flowers, the family has chosen to send donations to MS Canada.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 90 Avenue SE) on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00am.
