Carol Tholenaer died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at the age of 87 years, with the consolation of the Holy Sacraments, the prayers of the Church and surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born and raised on a farm in Standard, Alberta with her 10 brothers and sisters. She moved to Calgary in grade 10 to attend high school, and graduated from Holy Cross Hospital as a nurse in 1955. She met and married her husband Frank in 1957 then lived and raised their family in the same home since 1958.
She was a brave and zealous defender of the unborn in both the religious and political spheres, which included weekly praying in front of the abortion clinic for over 10 years. She was instrumental in the formation of the Traditional Latin Mass in Calgary where she was a generous benefactor and regularly attended. Her fellow parishioners remember her as having a strong and inspirational faith, always so pleasant, full of humor and friendly to everyone.
Her family honors her as a gentle, generous and lovingly devoted mother whose patience, faith, endurance and desire for peace, love and comfort for her family was inspirational and will never be forgotten. She was extremely intelligent, a voracious reader, quick to laughter and had many gifted and creative talents.
Carol was predeceased by Frank in 2008, her husband of 51 years, and her brother Romayne Gregory, lovingly remembered by her children: Diane, Ted, Terri (Paul), Greg, Tracey (Cam), and David and granddaughter Taylor, and grandsons Duncan and Jared, and by her siblings: Helen Beste, Iva Gregory, Mary Lu (Norman) Wandler, Maureen (Paul) LeBoeuf, Joe (Karen) Gregory, Jim (Wendy) Gregory, Frank (Terri) Gregory, Sharon (Gordon) Hart, Mike (Morinne) Gregory and sister-in-law Barb Gregory. She will be sorely missed. May you rest in peace!
