Carol Marilyn (Lake) Purnell

Carol Marilyn Purnell (nee Lake), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the age of 79.

Carol is survived by her children, Tamra (David), Taite (Erin), Treean (Jaime) and Tia; and nine grandchildren, Mason, Shae, Kailee, Zoe, Kyle, Riley, Jasper, Nolan and Lyra; as well as cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Irene Lake (nee Hannam) and brothers Peter and Allan.

Carol was born in December 1944, to Peter and Irene. She grew up in the community of Mountview and attended Crescent Heights High School. As a girl, she loved swimming and family trips to the Okanagan to visit family. Carol graduated as an RN and was working as a nurse when she met a patient (Reed) who became her husband, and they went on to have four children.

As a family, they lived in many different places including Logan Utah, Guelph Ontario, Saskatoon Saskatchewan, a dairy farm near Red Deer Alberta, Calgary, and High River. Carol was a hard worker, always willing to pitch in and help even if it was something new to her. Throughout her life, she worked at many different things from Nurse to Dairy Farmer, to Parent Aide, to Hotel Manager, to working at the Bay.

Carol was an avid animal lover, she had many cherished pets including cats, Scrub and Fuzz and dog, Cuddles. She enjoyed crafting, solving puzzles, reading mystery novels, and time spent with friends. Carol also enjoyed traveling with trips to many places including Vancouver Island, California, Hawaii, Thailand, Saint Lucia, and Mexico.

Most notably Carol spent her life caring for others first. Carol was devoted to her family, a loving mother, a caring daughter and sister and a proud grandmother. She cherished the times her house was filled with family and went to great lengths to make sure every special event and birthday was acknowledged and each person in her life felt special.

Carol will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives she has touched.
