Carol McDonald Obituary

Carol passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2026, beloved wife of Bruce McDonald

She will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends and all who knew her. Carol’s Career at the Holy Cross Hospital as the Recovery Room Nursing Unit Supervisor, left a deep impression of her compassion for life. Carol was born in Red Deer Alberta. Her family was large. Father Phillip, Mom Vera and nine brothers and sisters; Len, Vern Bud, Phylis, Dorthy, Ethel, Edna, Irene, and Marilyn.

The family grew up on a farm outside of Penhold. Carol left Penhold and moved to Calgary where she boarded with the nuns at Holy Cross. She studied hard to become a nurse.

Carol often told stories of how she would work later than most. She studied until she was exhausted, then studied some more. Carol graduated, eventually supervising the recovery room at the hospital, and training new nurses. There are memories of her racing down Elbow Drive in her 1975 Ford Granada to make it to work on time or deal with an emergency. She would not let the doctors and physicians go home until she had written orders for patients in her care. This was her gold standard.

Carol married Bruce on October 27th, 1979 . While she had met Bruce’s children a year prior. Fond memories of his daughter doing gymnastics outside her balcony would always bring a smile to her face. Those children, Graham (Valerie) Scott (Karen) Lynda (Mike), reflect often on family gatherings and the amazing love that was shared.

Grandy was also blessed with four grandchildren Laura (Dave), Mya (Brandon), Kyla (Liam), and Nicole (Eric).

Her Tweten family expanded with some living in the United States. Over the years Carol’s mind slowly slipped further and further away.

It has been a great honor to fulfill the duty of someone that you will cherish forever. A promise made is a promise kept. We will love you Always.

May God and all who have gone before you, greet you with open arms.

Bless you all.
