Byron Kenneth Goodall

Byron Kenneth Goodall of Rocky View County passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the age of 75 surrounded by his family after a difficult battle with cancer. 

Byron was born on June 3, 1948, to John and Ialeen (Sherwood) Goodall in Wilkie, Saskatchewan as the second oldest of six siblings. As a kid, he really enjoyed playing basketball, bowling, and being in the cadets where he earned his pilot’s license. He graduated from Wilkie’s McLurg High School in 1966 and from the University of Saskatchewan Electric Engineering College in 1970.  After graduation, he drove taxi for three months until he found employment with Saskatchewan Power in Regina.  After seven years, he moved with his family to Calgary, and in 1978 he joined Alberta Truck Line which later became NOVA Corporation, where he managed the computer department, first in Calgary and then in Edmonton.  In 1993, he relocated with his wife to Buenos Aires, Argentina with NOVA Gas International to manage its pipeline operations there. In 1995, he returned to Calgary and retired from Nova in 1998.  He then consulted with the National Energy Board, later taking a position as manager of the IT department within the organization. After he retired from the National Energy Board at the end of 2007, Byron and Arlene enjoyed many winters as snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona forming many lasting friendships.  Byron also devoted time to the many hobbies he enjoyed, including woodworking, chip carving, turning pens, leather working, target shooting, and providing computer support to both family and friends.

Byron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Arlene, his son, Kevin (Suzan), and daughter, Paula (Brett), and grandchildren, Ayden, Willem, Connor, and Brooklyn. He is also survived by his brother, Larry, his sisters, Darlene, and Dianne (Craig), his sister-in-law Marilee, brother-in-law Howard, and his two feline companions, Smokey and Taffy. He was predeceased by his father, John Goodall (1985) and his mother, Ialeen Goodall (2020), his brother, Donald Goodall (2010), his sister-in-law, Merla Goodall (2019) and his sister, Marilyn Wallace (July 17, 2023).

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Balzac Community Hall at 1 P.M. on Sunday, November 19, 2023. The family suggests memorial contributions in Byron’s memory be made to the Calgary Prostrate Centre or a charity of your choice.
