Burnette (Bernie) Wilson passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, at the age of 95. Bernie is survived by her five children, Kathie (Mario), Ted (Kathleen), Lynne (Simon), Susan (Blair) and William (Lisa), as well as three grandchildren, Jill (Justin), Hayley (Elliott), Daryl, and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward (Ted) Wilson, and her sister, Maureen Gagnon.
Bernie was born in Lethbridge, Alberta. She had a great love of coulees and the prairie sky. After graduating high school at the top of her class, Bernie attended business college, then moved to Calgary, where she took a position with Alberta Government Telephones (TELUS), joined the company bowling league, and met her future husband Ted at an outdoor skating rink. Banff held a special place in Bernie's heart, and she and her family enjoyed many visits there over the years.
Bernie loved her family home in Southwood and was happy living in the close community of neighbours and friends she had known for many years.
She was humble, spiritual, and loving, and had a generous heart. Bernie kept an immaculate home and was a wonderful cook. She especially loved music and singing, and was a pioneer parishioner of St. Gerard's Church, where she was active and worshipped faithfully for many decades. Our Mom will be dearly missed.
"Eternal rest be granted unto your servant Burnette and let eternal light shine upon her."
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Alzheimer Calgary.
