Brendan passed away on April 23, 2026 at the age of 90. Born in Dublin Ireland and attended the Redemptorist College Limerick for five years. He worked at the Atlas Assurance Company, Dublin, until 1957, when he made the difficult decision to leave his family in Ireland and venture out into the world. He emigrated to Montreal Canada, later moving to Calgary during the Calgary Stampede in 1958. Within a day of arriving to Calgary, he joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s choir. It was there that he first met the love of his life, the choir’s soloist Virginia Moore. They were married there in 1960. Brendan sang in various choirs through the years. He was an avid golfer, bird watcher, loved long walks, and enjoyed travelling the world with Virginia. He was employed in Calgary by Texaco, then worked for London Life Insurance Company for 40 years. After many years of contribution, rose to President of the Calgary chapter of the Life Underwriters Association (now Advocis) and an advisor to the National Association.
Lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his children Trish, Paul, Sharon (Alex), his grandchildren Sara (Javier), Amanda (Braden), Austin (Jessica), Stephanie (Michael), Tara, and great-grandchildren. He will also be fondly remembered by his siblings Peggy, Tricia, Geraldine, and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Brendan was predeceased by his parents James Kelly and Nora Crossley, brothers Anthony, Fr. Robert, Terry, David, wife Virginia, children John Brendan, Virginia Nora and granddaughter Julie.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Aspen Heights Retirement Residence, Continuing Care Unit for their compassionate care.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 2:00 PM.
