Bernadette passed away peacefully in Calgary, AB.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter, her parents John and Melvina Schimnosky, and all her 12 siblings. She is survived by her children, Daryl (Barb), Cheryl, and Tracy.
Mom was raised in the farming community of Leipzig, SK. In 1951 she graduated from the Holy Family Hospital School of Nursing, Prince Albert, SK. Over the years, she practiced in many areas of nursing and in many places including North Battleford, Weyburn, St. Louis, Denton Texas, Fresno, and Assiniboa, where she met and married Peter in 1956. After marriage, mom worked at the Col. Belcher (Vet) Hospital in Calgary for 4 years then took a leave from nursing to dedicate her care and love to her family. After 15 years in Calgary, the family moved to Regina, SK, where she returned to nursing for another 7 years working at the General and Plains hospitals. Next, they moved to Kamloops, BC, then back to Calgary.
In her leisure time, Mom enjoyed crossword puzzles, bridge, crocheting, baking (which will be missed by many), and golf and recorded a hole-in-one. In retirement, our parents continued to enjoy their travels and especially their winters in Arizona. Mom had a deep commitment to her Roman Catholic faith. She was a life force with a kind and generous spirit. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Moneta, and all those who came into her home to care for and support our mother and the staff at Rockyview Hospital.
A Funeral Mass will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 14 St SW) on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to a charity of their choice.
