Audrey Jorgensen Obituary

Audrey was born on October 19, 1932 in Boissevain, Manitoba. Her parents, Edwin Wesley Wark and Irene Gertrude Hewitt, were married in 1923. Audrey went to be with the Lord on May 4, 2021 in Calgary, Alberta.

Audrey lost her mother when she was 3 years old, and spent a minimal few years in the Killarney area, as a young child.  She then went to live with her Uncle Bill and Aunt Kay in Winnipeg, MB. After High School, Audrey worked in Winnipeg, as a waitress at Moore’s Restaurant, and later at Pile Equipment, as a phone switch operator/receptionist. She lived in Winnipeg until she was 21 years old, at which time she ventured out west to Alberta. She noted to her family that she traveled to Alberta on the passenger train with a calling to start a life of her own, and a new adventure. With $75, in her possession, she arrived in Calgary and stayed at the YMCA for $1.00 a night.

She enrolled in the Department of Public Health for Nursing Aides. She graduated and received her Canadian Vocational Training Diploma on April 8, 1955.  Her first position, following this, was at the Colonel Belcher Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. She then took a position at a rural hospital in Bassano, Alberta, where she enjoyed her nursing position and the people of this rural community. She met two RNs at this hospital, Elsie and Betty Ann Jorgensen. They really wanted this special young lady, their new friend/co-worker to meet their brother, ‘Bill Jorgensen’. The introduction was made, and the rest is history!

Audrey and Bill were married on June 30, 1956. She had found the love of her life and was following her dream to have a family of her own. Audrey and Bill owned and operated a mixed grain/cattle farm at Makepeace, Alberta. Audrey was an active member of her community: Lutheran Ladies Auxiliary, Makepeace Snowmobile Club, Church Choir, Community volunteer, parent driver supporting all her children’s activities, and hard-working farm wife. She was always busy with gardening, making meals for the field, moving equipment, helping with the cattle, all the while making and maintaining a loving and thriving home for her family.

Audrey and Bill retired from farming and moved to an acreage at Chestermere Lake, Alberta in 1978. Their final home together was in Okotoks, Alberta. They made many a friend from Hussar, Bassano, Strathmore, Calgary, Turner Valley, Black Diamond, Okotoks, and all the surrounding communities.

Audrey was a huge sports fan, she loved her Toronto Blue Jays baseball, and Canadian curling teams. She had played baseball as a young girl, and later floor curled with Bill locally and at Alberta Senior Games.
