"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."
Arthur Affonso peacefully passed away on April 20, 2026, at the age of 80 after a brief illness. As a devout and faithful Catholic, Arthur would have been the first to say that God blessed him with a long and healthy life, filled with love.
Arthur lived much of his life in Calgary where he was a cherished member of the community. He was an active member of his church, St. Mary's Cathedral, where he took great pride in serving the Lord and his fellow parishioners. One of Arthur’s greatest loves was cricket. He was an active member of the Calgary cricket community with an incredible legacy built over 45 years. Earlier this year, he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award and a Most Sportsmanlike Award by St. John’s Cricket Club and the Calgary & District Cricket League, respectively. On or off the cricket field, Arthur was known for his kindness, devotion, and vibrant spirit, and he was always at the centre of any social function. He was also easy to spot, given his penchant for dressing in colourful, fancy attire, and was on occasion mistaken for royalty.
Arthur made friends wherever he went, which suited his love of travel. In recent years Arthur and Korean embraced travelling the world on cruise ships, visiting five continents. They jokingly referred to their cruises as “daycare for senior citizens.” He also had the privilege of making two pilgrimages to the Holy Land and Rome with Fr. Avi, an epic highlight of his spiritual life. He was passionate about music, a good coupon or senior’s discount, and above all, the people he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Korean Barron, along with many family and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts forever.
A Visitation will be held at St. Mary's Cathedral (219 18 Ave SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday May 8th, 2026 at 10:00 am, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am.
In honour of Arthur’s vibrant personality and style, guests are encouraged to wear their finest colourful and/or joyful attire.
A life so richly lived is one to be celebrated and remembered with love and appreciation.
