Antonio (Tony) de Somma

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Antonio (Tony) de Somma on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the age of 74.

Tony was born to his parents Mario de Somma and Emilia Fusco in Monteforte, Irpino, Italy. In 1968 he immigrated to Calgary, AB, Canada, with his parents and brother.

Tony had a great passion for life. His gregarious nature earned him countless deep and lasting friendships. He had a strong work ethic and especially enjoyed his 28 years at Stampede Toyota and Lexus of Calgary. Tony was keen to keep the traditions of his native country alive, making homemade wine, cultivating a rich garden, and committing himself to the promotion of the Italian language and culture in the community.

Tony will be remembered as a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and colleague. 

His memory will be cherished by his loving wife Mery (née De Iure); two daughters, Emilia (Mark) and Silvia (Jaye); grandson Luca; brother Luigi (Joyce); brother-in-law Raniero De lure (Rocio); mother-in-law Filomena De lure; nieces, Elisea (Mat), Maria Giovanna, and Ségolène; and a large circle of family, friends, and colleagues both in North America and abroad. 

Tony’s family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to his amazing healthcare team – Dr. K. Savoia, Barb, Dr. N. Alvarez, Dr. J. Wong, Dr. Ma, Dr. J. Lee, Dr. J. Monzon and his team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Palliative Nurse Tara L. and her team, Unit 73 at the Rockyview Hospital, and numerous other doctors, nurses and caregivers – for the care, compassion, and kindness Tony received.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (404 Northmount Place NW) on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with a Visitation prior, starting at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Following the Graveside Service, please join the family for refreshments at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services, North (3625 - 12th St. NE).
