Anthony (Terry) Edgington Obituary

Terry was born and raised in Birmingham, England. Following Commercial High School, where he showed an aptitude for electronics, he served two years in HMS Navy specializing in Signals work. Terry then trained in telephony and went to work for the British Post Office/Telephone Service. In the 1950s he felt compelled to immigrate to Canada; in retrospect he believed it to be divine intervention to meet his bride and destiny. Terry worked for Northern Telephone in Kapuskasing, Ontario where he married his wife Carol in 1957. His marriage lasted almost 50 years during which they raised four children and one grandchild before he was widowed.

In the early years of marriage, Terry moved his family from Canada to England and back again growing as they went, and then made the final move out west to Calgary, Alberta where he settled with his family from 1968 to present.  In Calgary, Terry developed an interest in hypnosis, and for a while, he was the president of the Hypnosis Society of Alberta (HSA). Terry had been a Scout/Rover Leader in his twenties and rejoined the ranks when raising his boys. He enjoyed camping and hiking with the troops. Terry worked in various technical jobs, eventually retiring from a position as an Insta-bank Field Service Operator for BMO at age 65.

Post retirement Terry kept busy with family and volunteering for The Calgary Food Bank, The Canadian Cancer Society, and the Handi-boat for as long as he was able. He was very proud to be a 4th Degree Knight and served in varying capacities within his church community of Corpus Christi Catholic Parish. His faith was his strength and, at the end, his greatest comfort. Terry loved to be surrounded by family. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren visiting made him beam, and he shared in their stories, laughter, and songs to the end.

At 95 years, he was still pushing the envelope and living in his own home. Terry lived and died on his own terms. He will be missed.

Terry was predeceased by his parents Earnest and Johanna Edgington; his brother Adrian; nephew Phillip Edgington; his grandson Daniel Edgington; and his wife Carol Edgington (née Clark).

He is survived by his sons Ace(Anita) Edgington, Patrick(Almirara) Edgington, and Tony Edgington; his daughters Alana (Dean) Bruce, and Teressa(Samuel) Brown; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
