Anna Vincenzina (Bilotta) Bordin

lt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anna Vincenzina Bordin of Calgary on April 28, 2023, at the age of 86 years surrounded by her loved ones.

Anna was born on May 23, 1936 and was one of 8 children born in Sartano, Cosenza, ltaly to Chiara and Oloferno Bilotta. Her early life focused on developing practical skills which she would later use daily for the rest of her life.

 
At the age of 24, she immigrated to Calgary to join her two sisters Regina and Adolfina, and started her family shortly after. Anna began working at the Elbow Lodge for many years before she finally was able to work as a seamstress, a vocation she had learned from a very young age. Her skill and her friendly outgoing personality were appreciated by all. She worked her entire career in the fashion boutique industry where she helped select and create ensembles that were widely recognized. 

Mom was a very hard worker but she found the strength and time to raise her two sons Claudio and Robert. When her grandchildren arrived, Mikayla and Lucas, they instantly became the centre of her universe. Mom loved all children and would care for and helped raise many children over the years. She was always at the ready with a treat and a hug when the neighborhood kids would knock on Nonna's door. 
She enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Many a dinner party was hosted by her and her two sisters. All the major holidays were like a festival with what seemed like too many people, but there was always enough food and laughter. 

Mom enjoyed going to church where she would always go early and stay late in order to catch up visiting with the regulars. Her favorite time was Christmas when she could sing along with the choir, out of tune, but no one cared. 

When she finally retired, she focused on spending time with Dad in the garden or more importantly going shopping. Every day she would visit her favorite stores in one direction before returning home, then going out in the afternoon to visit the same stores only in the reverse order. 
Though small in stature she had a giant heart, courage, and determination. Her resolve never wavered in the face of her long battle with her illness. She was predeceased by Pietro, her husband of 49 years, and 4 sisters Fedora, Adolfina, Regina, and Giulia. She is survived by her sons Claudio (Diana), and Robert; grandchildren Mikayla (Chris) and Lucas; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her sister llvia; and brothers Vinicio and Franco. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

ln lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alberta Cancer Society or the Calgary Children's Hospital. 

Relative and friends are invited to Prayers at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 24 St SW) on Thursday, May 11 at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Friday, May 12, 2023 at 11:00am
