Anna passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the age of 81 years. She will always be remembered by her daughter, Rebecca; son-in-law Owen Melenka; and her good friend Donna.
Anna was born in Fort William and was raised in Kenora and Winnipeg. Leaving an environment of abuse, she made her way to Calgary in the mid-sixties with dreams of becoming a teacher. Instead of teaching, Anna worked in Calgary’s oil industry for most of her career. Being a single mother in the sixties was no easy feat but she accomplished it all on her own with no support from anyone else. On weekends, you could find her at local antique and thrift stores looking for a bargain or two. Anna loved cats and all animals, big and small. Reading was a lifelong passion, and she was surrounded by books wherever she went.
Anna is predeceased by her parents, John and Marie Derry, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Kotyk. Living relatives include a brother, John Derry, and sister, Patricia Blain (nee Derry).
The family wish to thank the staff at Revera McKenzie Towne for their care, love and kindness throughout her journey.
If you like, donations can be made to Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (https://aarcs.ca/) in her memory.
