Anastasios Tom Perperidis was born on May 11, 1940, in the small village of Nea Nikomedeia, Greece. He grew up in the nearby city of Veria in the heart of northern Greece, where the foundations of his character—his warmth and unshakeable devotion to family—were first established. This humble beginning set the stage for a man who would go on to lead a life filled with extraordinary love and purpose.
At just 18 years old, full of courage and hope, Tom set sail for a new world. His ship crossed the Atlantic and landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1958, carrying a young Tom with little more than a dream and the determination to make it a reality. He made his way to Toronto, Ontario, where life—as it often does for those bold enough to seek it—began to flourish.
In 1963, Tom found the love of his life and married the beautiful Evangelia Litsa. Their partnership weathered every season—a remarkable 64 years of devotion, laughter, and grace, right up until his passing. Together, they built their family in Toronto, welcoming their beloved daughter, Eleni Kiriakoula, and their cherished son, Kiriakos Charlie.
In 1974, the family’s journey took them westward—first to Calgary, Alberta, and then to the breathtaking mountain town of Jasper, Alberta, where Tom and Litsa would plant their deepest roots. It was there that the Perperidis family created something truly special: the Villa Caruso Steak House, a beloved institution that became as integral to Jasper as the mountains themselves. For Tom and Litsa, it was never just a business; it was a legacy built with their hands and hearts. Jasper became home in every sense of the word.
When the devastating forest fires swept through in 2024 and took their home, the loss was profound. The family temporarily returned to Calgary, but Tom’s heart never left the Rockies. The plan was always to rebuild, to return, and to be home again.
The crowning joy of Tom’s later years came in 2012, when his son Charlie married Rodoula Plakogiannis. From the very first moment, Tom welcomed Rodoula with open arms and was grateful for the love and happiness she brought to the family. Then came another blessing — the grandchildren.
Nothing — not the adventure of coming to a new country, not the pride of building a thriving business, and not even the majesty of the Rockies — could have prepared Tom for the boundless joy that Anastasios (12), Evangelia (10), and Ourania (8) brought into his world. They were his greatest treasure. Tom’s greatest priority was simple: to be with them — to watch them grow, to hear their laughter, and to love them with everything he had.
He is survived and deeply loved by:
• His wife of 64 years, Evangelia Litsa Perperidis
• Daughter, Eleni Kiriakoula Perperidis
• Son, Kiriakos Charlie Perperidis, and daughter-in-law, Rodoula Perperidis
• Grandchildren, Anastasios, Evangelia, and Ourania Perperidis
That was Anastasios TOM Perperidis, a man who crossed an ocean at 18 and spent the rest of his life building something beautiful on the other side.
With Love and Gratitude,
The Perperidis Family
