It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ana (Boban) Kvrgnjas on June 10, 2025, at the age of 88 years old.
Born on March 5, 1937 in Bacevac, Yugoslavia (now Croatia).
She was predeceased by her parents, her older brother Tom, older sister Mary, younger sister Jula, and by her husband Martin Kvrgnjas.
She is survived by five children. Emma Kay (Larry Thibodeau), Shane Kvrgnjas (Tracy), Mary Turner, Selma Danielson (Dave), Patricia Baran, and her younger brother Marian. Grandchildren – Bryan Turner, Sarah Turner, Mjaa Danielson, Stefan Danielson, Johann Danielson, Sydney Kvrgnjas, Jake Kvrgnjas, Lyndsey Kvrgnjas, Alicia Baran, Hannah Baran, Jacob Thibodeau, Sami Thibodeau. Great grandchildren – Presley Mae Turner, Trey Turner, JJ (Jacob Jr.) Thibodeau.
Ana and Martin escaped the former communist country to raise their family in Canada. From the mid sixties they made Calgary their home and attended St. Cecilia’s Parish in Calgary from 1969.
Ana was a woman who loved her family and made them a priority. She loved when we would all gather at her home. She was a fabulous cook and baker. She loved feeding everyone. Ana was a wonderful gardener. When you would go into her backyard it felt like a secret garden. She was a smart and resourceful woman. It was devastating that in the last six years of her life she lived with dementia. In the last two years the dementia advanced rapidly, yet you could still see the kind and caring person she was.
She may not have remembered who we were, but she knew we were her people.
