Al was born on December 1, 1960 to Barbara and Oscar Brantnall in Prince George, BC. He is survived by his older sister Judy Brantnall and his younger sister, Sheila Brantnall.
Al was raised in Quesnel, BC. He left Quesnel in 1989 after his divorce to begin a new life in Calgary, Alberta. Throughout his life, Al was an avid outdoorsman, with fishing being his favourite pastime. Al took pride in his work as a Heavy Equipment Operator and was a skilled operator, often tasked with training new drivers. Having been in recovery for many years, Al was also passionate about his work in the off-season as a Designated Driver. Ensuring that folks got home to their loved ones safely was very important to him.
Being an introvert, Al had a small circle of friends who meant the world to him. If anyone would like to make a donation in his honour, Al would want it to be the Salvation Army Center for Hope, the organization that supported him in his journey to sobriety.
