Allan Charles Holbrook

Allan passed away on January 1, 2025, at the age of 90 years. Allan was pre-deceased by his loving wife Marie (Mary), and his beloved daughter Mary Ellen (Jay).  He is survived by his children Katherine (Eric), Richard (Melanie), son-in-law Jay (Nancy); his grandchildren Christie (Fraser), Michael (Ashley), Emily (Lap-kei), Amy (Brandon), Sarah (Cody), Rachel, Robert (Emmy), and Grace (Joey) and his great-grandchildren Emmett, Alyse and Theodore. Allan was also pre-deceased by his parents Henry and Doris Holbrook, his siblings David (Deborah), Jean (Terry), Phillip (Linda) and Brian.

Allan was born in Clacton-on Sea, Essex, England. His early years were impacted by the war, which had necessitated leaving his family and changing schools due to bombings and the death of friends. His happy memories during this time were spent with his Aunt Billie in the country where he was well fed and spoiled by her. At the age of 17, he and his family immigrated to Canada where they settled in Calgary.  In 1955, he married Marie, had 3 children and 57 wonderful years together.   Allan spent his career as an Insurance Adjuster.  He retired young in 1988 due to a stroke, but he was always thankful for the extra time he had to spend with Marie. He and Marie loved singing and were involved in multiple choirs and performed with the Calgary Opera Chorus for 17 years. The family dogs over the years; Charlie, Lucy and Dolly were all such great companions. He thoroughly enjoyed the annual family vacations to Osoyoos where he could visit with family and friends on the beach, sail his boat and savour Italian dinners with loved ones.

In 2012, he and Marie moved to Garrison Green Seniors Community, where he made many friends and received amazing care from the nurses and staff.

We are very grateful for the care Allan received at Intercare Chinook Care Centre in his last few weeks.

Funeral services will be held at St. Laurence Anglican Church (5940 Lakeview Dr. SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 2:00p.m. For those unable to attend in person a recording may be found below.
