Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Alfred James Sweetland, on Sunday, September 10, 2023, in Calgary, Alberta.
Alfred was born on May 23, 1943, in Okotoks, Alberta. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Jean Sweetland, and two children, Shelley Whitson (Patrick) and Christopher Sweetland. Alfred also leaves behind his siblings, John Sweetland (Barbara), Harry Sweetland, Robert Sweetland (Glenda), Kathleen O’Mahony (Edwin), and Paul Sweetland, as well as nieces and nephews. Alfred is predeceased by his father, Thomas Sweetland, and mother, Eleanor Sweetland.
After attending SAIT, Alfred enjoyed a long career in telecommunications at AGT (now TELUS), working in both Calgary and Red Deer.
Alfred was a pet lover and loved going for walks in Fish Creek with his dog, Pepper, and his daughter’s dog, Levi. He also loved watching Calgary Flames games, doing crosswords, and music. Alfred was an avid curler, up until he was no longer able to, he loved being part of the team.
Alfred was truly a family man, and he would always say his biggest accomplishment was his family.
