After immigrating to Canada from London, England in 1953, with his new wife, Anne, Alf enjoyed a life full of hard work, friendship, and laughter. He worked as a cook in Toronto and then joined the Air Force as a medical assistant, deploying on three tours to Germany. He later worked as a medic in Zambia, Nepal, and the Arctic.
Alf was a joiner by trade. He taught woodworking skills to family and completed many projects for friends and neighbours. Alf loved singing with the German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary. He expressed regret at not being able to join them on their European tour next spring.
In his youth Alf was evacuated from London during the Blitz in Operation Pied Piper. He enjoyed scouting and membership in the SPY Club (church group) where he cycled, played tennis and badminton while making lifelong friends.
His friends around the world will miss his regular phone conversations. He had an extensive repertoire of stories and life experiences to share. His passing leaves a large void in so many lives. He is survived by Anne, his wife of 72 years, his children Mark (Laurie), Susan (Steve) and Ruth (Dave), his grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as his uncle George (101 years old). We loved him so much!
There will be a gathering in his memory in the New Year. TBA
