Alexander (Alex) Shklanka, 88, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta.
Born on March 1, 1937, in Mayfair, Saskatchewan, he lived a full and accomplished life rooted in dedication to family, work, and personal passions.
Alex pursued higher education at the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. This academic foundation led to a long and successful career with Canadian Superior and Mobil Oil. His professional legacy included his instrumental role in building the Harmattan Gas Plant - an achievement that stands as a testament to his expertise and commitment to the energy industry.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alex was known for his love of music and was a band member over the years. He found joy in playing the accordion, an instrument that brought warmth and spirit to many gatherings over the years. Alex also played the bass guitar with impressive skill.
Sylvan Lake Alberta held a special place in his heart, having spent years with his family and friends around the campfire.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Adele Shklanka (Hagel), as well as his sisters Nettie Kawulka and Natalie Chimiuk. Alex is survived by his brother Mike; his three sons: Mark (Marina), Dave, and Don (Zoe); and seven grandchildren who carry forward his memory.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church (1305 Main St S, Airdrie, AB) on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 11:00 am, with a viewing prior to the Mass at 10:00 am. A Reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Graveside service to follow at Airdrie Cemetery.
