Alexander James Russell

We will fondly remember his life, but unfortunately announce the passing of Alexander James Russell (aka Alox, Zandar, Panda, Pandar, etc.) on May 21, 2024, at the age of 47 years.

Alex was born in 1977 to Melvyn and Nedena in Calgary, Alberta.  He had a troubled early youth before discovering his innate talent and passion for art.  Through this medium he was able to thrive and channel his thoughts and dreams, and quickly developed a reputation for an art style that was unique and evolving.  He had a particular passion for increasing his natural skillset and working outside of his comfort zone.  As he grew through his teenage years, he also developed a deep passion for music, being particularly interested in singing and DJing. His experiences living abroad, including time in Jamaica, enriched his artistic and musical perspectives.

His art style was adapted throughout the years, often reflecting what was happening in his personal life.  The result is a wide-ranging depiction of his innermost feelings throughout each stage of his life – not something that is readily available for most people, and for this we are grateful. 

His talent and passion will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will continue to live on through the art and music he created.

Alex is survived by his blended family, father Melvyn (Brenda) Russell; stepfather Gerald (Jean) Fuss; sisters Victoria (Jordan) Hunter and Amanda (Jeff) Duncan; brother Nicholas (Nicole) Fuss; as well as many grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

Alex was predeceased by his mother Nedena Maria Fuss; maternal grandparents Jimmy Redwood and Vera Gambie; and paternal grandparents Alan and Daisy Russell.

A Small Memorial will be held for family members at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services (South) on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
