Aleatha Florence Close

Aleatha peacefully passed away on Saturday May 29, 2021 at the age of 92 years.  She was born in Northleigh, Alberta to Martin and Julia McGinn.  To celebrate her life Aleatha leaves behind a legacy of three sons, Rob (Debbie) of Regina, Ben (Christine) of Calgary and Tom (Shelley) of Calgary.  She also had 7 grandchildren Daly, Shayna, Tara (Caleb), Natalie (Jared), Mark, Julia and Mike (Shannon); as well as 4 great grandchildren Fintan, Timan, Isla and Rosalind.  Aleatha is also survived by her sister Colette Stringer (Cliff) of Kelowna.

She will be dearly missed.

Aleatha grow up in a large family on the farm in Northleigh.  Aleatha and her sister Colette left home to work up on the Alaska Highway where she would meet Marshall, the love of her life. They were married in 1954 and had three sons.  Once married, Aleatha was a homemaker throughout the remainder of her life.  They lived at miles 245 and 392 on the Alaska Highway before eventually moving to Fort St. John where they stayed until retirement.  Eventually Aleatha and Marshall decided to relocate to Kelowna and enjoy a milder climate during their golden years.  Health issues would eventually creep up on both Aleatha and Marshall and in 2015 they relocated once again, this time to Alberta to be closer to family.  

Aleatha and Marshall were rarely seen apart. Sports was a large part of their married lives.  During there time in Fort St. John, they could always be seen attending local sporting events.   When guests would come to visit they were sure to find one of either baseball, hockey or curling on the television.

Our family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude and to thank the staff of St. Marguerite Manor for the exceptional care that they gave to our mother through this most difficult 15 months of the Covid-19 pandemic.
