It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Adrian, aged 72, a loving husband, father and grandfather, who fought a 4-plus year battle with prostate cancer. Adrian was born in Mumbai (Bombay) to Charles and Beatrice, both deceased, and spent most of his formative years in the Bombay suburb of Santa Cruz. It was only after he joined Air-India as a flight attendant and started travelling internationally that he chose to emigrate to Canada. He landed in Montreal in January of 1975 and wasted no time in marrying Judy, whom he had followed from Santa Cruz. Two years later, he and Judy moved to Edmonton where he spent a very rewarding and satisfying 30-plus year career in the IT department of Imperial Oil (Exxon Mobil). His eldest daughter, Astrid, was born in Edmonton. Two years later, after a transfer to Calgary, his 2nd daughter, Beatrice, was born.
Adrian loved music including singing and dancing with his wife, Judy. He was a member of 3 local choirs: REVV52, the Talisman/Repsol Corporate choir and One Accord. Adrian attributed much of his musical success to Judy.
He was an enthusiastic world traveler and, once his girls were adults, he and Judy enjoyed 15 years of world-wide travel. He was also an avid photographer and, on all his travels, his camera was attached to his arm and he took great pleasure in sharing the best of his pictures on social media.
When Adrian retired, he spent the majority of his time volunteering, including the Imperial Oil Annuitant Club, the Husky Retirement Club and the annual Kiwanis Music Festival. His most cherished volunteer experience was with the White Hatters at the Calgary Airport where he was able to combine his love of airports, travel and helping people from around the world.
Adrian is survived by his loving wife Judy, of 45 years, his beloved daughters Astrid (Trevor MacPhee), Beatrice (Adrian Kozlowski), and his 2 adored grandchildren, Maren and Elin. He is also survived by his younger brother, Brian (Fernanda) of Calgary and his family and his sister, Edwina (Norman) Viegas of Edmonton and her family. Adrian is also survived by Judy’s siblings David (Jen) Phillips and his family from Dubai, Rita (Bala) Nair and her family from Mumbai (Bombay) and Tony (Margaret) Phillips and his family from Mumbai (Bombay).
Adrian would like to especially thank the following doctors for their care over the years: Dr. Paul Fedak (Libin Cardiovascular Institute), Drs. Jun Kawakami, Geoff Gotto and Brian Donnelly (VESIA Prostate Centre), Dr. Richard Ward (CVFP), Dr. Rajeev Sharma (Dulcina Hospice).
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at the Dulcina Hospice for their kindness, patience and attention to Adrian during his last days.
His Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church with The Rev. Jonathan Gibson officiating. A private interment service will be held after the mass. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed with the link available at www.evanjstrong.com.
