It is with deep sadness that the family of Abie Aslateei announces his passing on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Rockyview General Hospital—just a few months shy of his 80th birthday.
Abie was born on October 28, 1945, in Romania to proud parents Lazar and Adela Aslatei (née Haim). As a young boy, he and his family, including his younger brother Carmel, left their homeland during the Second World War. Their journey took them to Israel, and eventually they made a home in Montreal.
In the early 1980s, Abie visited Calgary at the invitation of a friend—and never looked back. He built a long and successful career in sales, particularly in the construction and renovation industries, where he was known for his charisma and work ethic.
Abie will be lovingly remembered by his son Leigh Aslateei, and daughter Jadah Aslateei (Sheckley) and husband Omar Sheckley. One of his greatest joys was meeting his first grandchild, Adam Sheckley. He is also survived by his nephew Adam Cohen-Aslatei, niece Lauren Adler, and cousins Bernie Haim, Paula Joseph, Lily Katz, Clara Sheftman, and Abie Haim.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lazar and Adela, and his brother Carmel.
In his later years, Abie’s strength and resilience were a source of inspiration to all who knew him, as he bravely faced several health challenges, including Parkinson’s disease. We take comfort in knowing he is finally at peace and free from pain.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mayfair Care Centre and the doctors and nurses at Rockyview Hospital for their compassionate care in his final days. We love you, Dad.
As per Abie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Association of Alberta.
