It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Ray Kenneth Crockett, on Sunday, January 29, 2017, following a very sudden and insurmountable battle with cancer. Ray was born in Nipawin Saskatchewan on June 30, 1938. He completed his high school degree and went on to complete an Electrical Engineering Degree at the University of Saskatchewan. Ray married Donna Patterson on May 9, 1964, and embarked on a career in offshore drilling that took him and his family on many exciting adventures around the world, most notably Scotland, Australia, Libya and Nigeria. Although he and Donna loved their time abroad, Ray's passion was always his family and spending time at their favorite campgrounds with long-time friends Bruce and Sherry McFadzean, and Jim and Laura Hamilton. Ray's summers were often spent with Donna at her family's cabin on Moberly Lake, BC, where his vast knowledge of astronomy was shared to its fullest in the dark northern skies. Ray is survived by his wife Donna, his two children Tom (Paige), Heather (Sam); his four beautiful and adored grandchildren Claudia, Abigail, Isabelle and Benjamin; sister Avaleigh; brother Terry (Joan); brothers-in-law Douglas (Janet), Robert; sister in law Laurie; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who both loved, and were loved by, Ray. He had an indescribable ability to touch those around him in a short amount of time; a gift that is still felt even though he's gone. Ray did not want a funeral, his family honored him with a small gathering at Tom's home in Calgary. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Ray's family through www.evanjstrong.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's name to the Tom Baker Cancer Center (1331-29 St NW Calgary, AB T2N 4N2; telephone: 1 403-521-3723; website: www.albertacancer.ca). Arrangements in care of EVAN J. STRONG FUNERAL SERVICES. (403) 265-1199.
