Olga Chaykowski, wife, mother and Baba, died unexpectedly on July 25, 2017 at the age of 63.
Olga was born in Montreal on May 18, 1954 to Mykola and Kataryna Janiw. After completing High School in 1971 at Montreal's James Lyng, she travelled to Ottawa where she earned a diploma in Nursing at the Civic Hospital. Olga worked in various medical facilities before retiring from Calgary's Rockyview General Hospital in 2009.
On September 4, 1974, she married Al, a newly graduated geologist and the love of her life. On November 28, 1978 and April 25, 1981 respectively, they welcomed her two sons, Adam and Matt, who became the most important part of her life.
Olga was a fitness buff and, early after she and Al moved to Calgary, she enjoyed conducting super fit aerobic workouts to disco tunes at a local fitness center in the area. Her taste in the musical arts was eclectic and she became a member of the Calgary Opera Society and performed in professional productions at the Jack Singer Hall. After her retirement, she enjoyed golfing with Al and their friends at the River Spirit Golf Course, and traveling to Hawaii, Mexico and other places. She also turned to needle point, making baby blankets for family and friends and painting porcelain. Unfortunately, chronic Illness in the last years of her life slowed her down somewhat. Nevertheless, her two granddaughters, Scarlet and Alice, were always the highlight of her retirement and she spent a lot of time teaching and learning from them.
Olga is survived by her husband Al; her children, Adam (CJ) and Matt (Dena) and her granddaughters Scarlet and Alice; her brother John (Diane); and her sister-in-law Diana (Klaus).
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of her life at Evan J Strong Funeral Services (5502 2 Street SW) on August 2, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.
